Ziyu Wei’s practice delves into the psychological and emotional undercurrents of contemporary life. Working primarily with photography and mixed media, she constructs visual narratives that navigate the fragile boundaries between memory, perception, and social transformation. Her works often unfold in the in-between—where the personal and collective, the rational and the subconscious, quietly converge.

Rather than offering straightforward representation, Wei’s images function as emotional architectures, tracing the residues of desire, anxiety, and tenderness that define modern existence. Within these shifting spaces, she reflects on how human vulnerability endures amid systems of order, technology, and consumption, transforming fragility into a site of awareness and renewal.

Through a practice that balances introspection and criticality, Wei seeks to uncover the subtle poetics of being—where contradiction, humour, and empathy coexist as essential forces of survival and meaning.memory, time, and space. I build my images through repeated layering and erasure, seeking to preserve emotional and temporal traces within the accumulation of brushstrokes. For me, painting is not merely a visual expression, but a meditative, bodily process—a profound dialogue between myself, my memories, cultural identity, and the ever-shifting world.
